YOUR SPIRITUAL INHERITANCE

Why so many Christians fail to receive their inheritance.

Do you understand how Spiritual inheritance works?

To help explain we will look at how inheritance works in the natural (the same principles apply to spiritual inheritance.

How it works: First their must be a Testator; it is the person who drafts a will or testament. Then their need to be heirs (most of the time they are set out in the testament). Lastly what the inheritance is and the conditions/ requirements for receiving the inheritance is also set out in the testament.

Now the obvious: To receive an inheritance the testator must have died. Once he has died the inheritance becomes available to the heirs (and the heirs only) on condition that they have met the requirements!

Now let us look at our Spiritual inheritance.

We have a Testament - It is called "THE NEW TESTAMENT"!

Hebrews 9: 15-16

For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance—now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant. In the case of a will, it is necessary to prove the death of the one who made it, because a will is in force only when somebody has died; it never takes effect while the one who made it is living.

There are heirs! But who are they?

Romans 8: 17

Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.

Here we see the main requirement: "Now if we are children, then we are heirs"!

John 1:12

Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God

To be a heir you need to be a child of God!

But there is a catch!

Galatians 4: 1-2

What I am saying is that as long as an heir is underage, he is no different from a slave, although he owns the whole estate. The heir is subject to guardians and trustees until the time set by his father.

The "underage" heir is a spiritually immature Christian that is not ready to obtain his or her inheritance yet. See, the condition to most of God's blessings (including the inheritance) is obedience - obedience to God's Word and the principles and conditions therein!

Deuteronomy 28:2

All these blessings will come on you and accompany you if you obey the LORD your God.

Obedience (with a willing heart) is more important than all our sacrifices!

And Samuel said, “Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams.

Prayer today:

God, grant me the grace and the mercy to become a mature heir. Teach me your ways and to become obedient to you in all of my ways. Thank you Father that Jesus died for me and that You have provided an inheritance for me. Grant me the grace to be able to take possession thereof. In Jesus' name, amen!
